How does spending a week in Clark Colorado, north of Steamboat Springs, at the Glen Eden Resort
sound? You could be a participant in a week long educational experience offered through La Plata
Electric Association, Inc. (LPEA).
You will learn about the issues surrounding the electric industry, how our government works, and discuss current issues with state congressional representatives. Your experience will be shared with nearly 100 of your peers from Colorado, Kansas, Wyoming and Oklahoma. Everyone gets to participate and learn. Adult counselors will chaperone and facilitate the week long activities. While the trip is not billed as a vacation, you will be entertained with a dance, volleyball tournament and other fun activities. Most importantly, you will make friends to last a lifetime!
The opportunity to participate is open to all area high school juniors. LPEA will sponsor one
student from each area high school to attend the 2011 CEEI Cooperative Youth Leadership
Camp. This is an all expenses paid trip. This year's Leadership Camp will be held July 10-15,
2012.
How do you get your chance to participate? It’s easy. We have distributed registration packets to
your high school counselors. If you're interested, ask your counselor for an application packet, or
visit our website at www.lpea.coop. The completed application, including an electronic photo
(head & shoulder shot emailed to jbennett@lpea.coop) - must be returned by the January 6, 2012 deadline, along with the required 500 word essay on what it “Means to be a Leader.” Selection of the representative from each high school will be based on the information you provide us on the application.
You will also be required to address the La Plata Electric Board meeting following the trip,
either in August or September, and give a short report on your Leadership Camp
experience. We also like our Leadership Camp attendees, to be part of our LPEA Annual
Meeting, which will be held on May 12, 2012.
So, for a very small effort on your part, no expense other than souvenirs and the like, and showing
up for a couple of meetings…can you think of a better way to spend a week next summer?
