Scholarship opportunities

LPEA directly offers two full college scholarships:

LPEA/Fort Lewis College Scholarship

LPEA/John Voelker Memorial Scholarship (For Technical School or Junior College)

LPEA is the application source for three other affiliated scholarships:

Fort Lewis College Scholarship

LPEA will award one La Plata Electric/Fort Lewis College (FLC) four-year scholarship to begin in the 2008-2009 school year. The scholarship recipient will be awarded a full scholarship (tuition and books) for four years at FLC, given that the student maintains minimum criteria qualifications.

The applicant is encouraged to pursue an academic major that relates to a career in the rural electric cooperative field. Possible fields of study include accounting, business management, computer science, engineering or any other related profession.

The recipient will be encouraged to attend the La Plata Electric Summer Leadership Camp for one week during the summer between high school graduation and the start of the fall term. La Plata Electric will pay all expenses for the Leadership Camp.

A copy of the student’s high school transcript and a short essay written by you outlining your high school/college honors; community and school activities; your employment history; and future career goals must accompany the application. Application deadline is March 3, 2008.

LPEA/John Voelker Memorial Scholarship

The La Plata Electric/John Voelker Scholarship was created for students attending a vocational school, technical school or junior college. This two-year maximum scholarship will be awarded each year for fees, books, tools and supplies for an amount not to exceed $3,000.00.

Eligible applicants must be graduating seniors from any high school or home school program within LPEA’s service territory and must plan to attend an accredited vocational school, technical school, or junior college.

Tri-State Scholarship

LPEA's power supplier, Tri-State Generation & Transmission, Inc. offers two $500 scholarships to the college of student's choice.

A copy of the student’s high school transcript and a copy of college entrance examination (ACT and/or SAT) scores must accompany the application. Application deadline is March 3, 2008.

Enclose a short essay written by you outlining your high school/college honors; community and school activities; your employment history; and future career goals.

Basin Electric Scholarship

Basin Electric Power Cooperative, a generation cooperative affiliated with LPEA, offers one $1,000 scholarship to the college of student's choice.

A copy of the student’s high school transcript and a copy of college entrance examination (ACT and/or SAT) scores must accompany the application. Application deadline is March 3, 2008.

Enclose a short essay written by you outlining your high school/college honors; community and school activities; your employment history; and future career goals.

Rocky Mountain Electrical League Scholarship

Rocky Mountain Electrical League (RMEL) offers one scholarship up to $2,500 to the college of student's choice. Application deadline is March 13, 2008.
