LPEA adds to Member Relations team, enhancing social media efforts
To assist in social media and web presence, Lonnie Tucker has been named Communications Coordinator at La Plata Electric Association (LPEA). He joins the established Member Relations team that includes Jeannie Bennett, public relations coordinator, and Indiana Reed, public information officer and marketing communications consultant.
“There are only so many hours in a day, so to add to our community and communications opportunities beyond what Jeannie and Indiana have available timewise, we’ve brought Lonnie on,” said Ron Meier, manager of engineering and member relations. “We’re looking to Lonnie’s previous experience to help LPEA focus on web-based and social media tools.”
Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Tucker studied business at the University of Florida for two years, and joined Anheuser-Busch, the international brewing company, where he worked for 14 years nationally and internationally in a customer service and quality assurance capacity, ultimately based out of St. Louis, Mo.
While in Missouri, impacted by the 9-11 terrorist attacks, he left the beer industry and returned to college to complete his degree in journalism at the University of Missouri. Upon graduation he joined Cuivre River Electric Cooperative as a communications specialist where he served for 12 years overseeing the cooperative’s educational projects and youth programs, as well as the Operation Round Up program.
“I love the co-op world,” said Tucker. “I kind of live my life along the seven cooperative principles. I think the biggest one for me is concern for community. In Missouri it was Operation Round Up, and here with the Round Up Foundation.”
An avid cyclist, Tucker raced on the bicycle circuit for 10 years, motocross for 25 years, and had the opportunity to represent the United States in 1995 in international competition in Freiberg, Germany alongside local cycling greats Ned Overend and John Tomac.
LPEA, a Touchstone Energy Cooperative established in 1939, provides to its more than 30,000 members, with in excess of 42,000 meters, safe, reliable electricity at the lowest reasonable cost, while being environmentally responsible.
LPEA offers a variety of apprenticeships and employment opportunities. To explore employment, or for additional information, visit www.lpea.coop.
