Remember the Winter “Blinks”

Some LPEA members may have noticed their electricity blinking on and off during recent snowstorms. These brief power interruptions are caused by the automated safety mechanisms in LPEA's distribution system working properly.

When wet, heavy snow accumulates on lines, it can abruptly fall off and cause wires to bounce into each other or nearby objects. This triggers the system to instantly cut power to prevent damage or fires. The system then quickly attempts to restore electricity once the interference has cleared. This causes the irritating but harmless blinking.

While blinking lights can be a nuisance, they show that LPEA's safety systems are functioning to protect the overall distribution system.

If members experience a few blinks, it’s not necessary to call LPEA. If, however, after about 15 minutes the power has not been automatically restored, members are encouraged to call the main LPEA line, (970) 247-5786 to report the outage.

As we welcome winter, be sure LPEA has your current phone numbers on file so we can keep you informed during an outage with our outage texting service.
